Join in our annual spring campout and trail work weekend at Indian Creek (near Sedalia). The Forest Service has agreed to let us come in and use the equestrian campground (which doesn’t officially open until the following weekend). Those who want to camp may arrive and set up camp on Friday afternoon, camp Saturday night also, and leave by Sunday evening. There are pens at the campground for our horses.
We will not be setting up our camp kitchen. All those coming just bring your own chair, meals and water. We will have a pot luck supper Saturday night. All those who just want to come up for the day and help are needed and very welcome.
On Saturday, plan to be ready to ride at 10 am to work on the main Indian Creek Trail. Hopefully there will be some who want to try to do the entire 14 mile loop and others who may not want to ride that far. The terrain is varied – some flat, some hilly and rocky, with a few water crossings.
Sunday we can just do a nice fun ride for those who wish to do so. We know it is Mother’s Day and some may need to leave to be with family.
Because the campground is not officially open yet, the pit toilet will not be open, there will be no water or garbage service available. Bring water for yourself and your horse. Be prepared to pack out your trash. The pit toilet at the main parking lot will be open as it is all year.
A few more details:
– Equipment will be provided – FRBCH vests, saws, and loppers.
– BYO water, lunch and snacks, gloves, hat, sunscreen, long sleeved shirt or jacket, and raincoat. You may or may not need insect repellent.
– There is no water at the trailhead for horses. Bring water for your horses. Fly spray for your horse is always a good idea.
Directions: The Indian Creek Trailhead is 10 miles from Sedalia along Highway 67. The parking lot is on the right side of the road. At the end of the parking lot there is a gate across the road that leads to the equestrian campground. The gate may be closed and appear locked. Let yourself through the gate and be sure to close it behind you. There is plenty of room for trailers in the campground.
